Our Story
Our Story

It started in a kitchen in Kasaragod.

Not a boardroom, not a pitch deck. A jar, a spoon, and a sticky shelf.

I didn't set out to build a coconut oil brand. I set out to stop being annoyed.

I grew up in Kasaragod, in the north of Kerala, where coconut isn't an ingredient so much as a fact of life. It's in the food, the hair oil, the roof, the fence, the snacks, the weddings. Every house has a bottle of coconut oil somewhere within arm's reach of the stove.

And in every one of those houses, that bottle is a small daily nuisance. Wide mouth. Spoon that lives inside it or goes missing. Oil that runs down the outside and glues the base to the shelf. Four months of the year it solidifies and you're sitting the whole thing in hot water before you can cook.

We all just accepted it. That's the part that got to me.

Somewhere along the way we decided that a good ingredient was allowed to be a bad experience. I don't think it is.

The first version was not this

Before Squzo, I was running Teckoon — a multi-category online store where I sold everything from gadgets to home products. Coconut oil was going to be one more product on that shelf. A 500ml bottle. A decent margin. Nothing more ambitious than that.

But it kept not feeling right. Selling good Kerala coconut oil in the same generic bottle everyone else used meant I was competing on price against people with bigger factories than mine. And more importantly, I wasn't actually fixing the thing that bothered me in the first place.

So I killed the SKU and started over.

Starting with the bottle instead

The flip was simple, and once I saw it I couldn't unsee it: what if the format was the product?

Not "coconut oil that happens to come in a squeeze bottle." A squeeze bottle that happens to start with coconut oil.

One hand. No spoon. No lid. Point it at the pan, squeeze, done. You control the amount instead of guessing with a tablespoon. Nothing drips down the side. It sounds like a small thing. It is a small thing. It's also the difference between an ingredient you reach for and one you reach past.

That decision changed everything downstream — the name, the label, the plan.

Finding the name

I went through a lot of names. Most of them were the usual suspects for this category: something with coco in it, something with a Malayalam word, something with "pure" or "gold" or "Kerala" stapled to the front. All of them boxed the brand into being a coconut oil company forever.

Squzo doesn't mean coconut. It means squeeze. It's the format, not the ingredient — which is exactly the point.

No Mess. Just Squeeze. — that line went under the logo and it's stayed there. It works for coconut oil. It'll work for everything that comes after.

How we got here

  • First

A 500ml coconut oil SKU planned under Teckoon — a product on a shelf, nothing more.

  • The rethink

Scrapped it. Realised the bottle was the opportunity, not the oil.

  • The name

Ruled out every coconut-themed name. Landed on Squzo — a format, not an ingredient.

  • The look

Built the identity from scratch: black bottle, green cap, cream label, a coconut with sunglasses, and Kerala on the side where it belongs.

  • The oil

Wood pressed, 100% virgin, chemical free, trans fat free. Made in Kerala, the slow way.

  • Next

Peanut butter is in development. After that, anything currently stuck at the bottom of a jar.

What we're actually building

Squzo is a one-person operation right now. I do the sourcing, the label design, the ads, the packing, the replies to your Instagram DMs. That's not a humblebrag — it's just useful for you to know who you're buying from.

What I'm building isn't a coconut oil company. It's a pantry brand organised around a format: everyday things that are better when you can squeeze them instead of scooping them. Coconut oil is where it starts because it's what I know, it's what's around me, and it's the one that annoyed me most.

Old ingredients. New bottle. Made in Kerala, by someone who actually uses the stuff.

Thanks for reading — and for trying something from a brand this new.
